luck and love
Oh my goodness. An email from Ottawa late this afternoon. Could we all check to see if the office space we just vacated is still available for rent. That had my tummy in a knot. Truthfully, I would have been suprised if that issue hadn't reared it's ugly head soon. Minority governments are notorious for toppling over in a light breeze and this federal one is really too close to dead even to take the chance. I was actually thinking of starting to search on my own anyway so now I even have official sanction. Off went an email to the last landlord asking if that or any other space might be available in the next few months. "This is only a test.." - the email at the end stressed this was only part of our planning exercises, but all the same we don't normally beign this type of work until about two years after an event.

I received a response from the law firm about the free occupational health and safety seminar. Please come and bring friends from EC if you wish. Alright then. That is something to look forward to in another couple of weeks. That response went on to say that one of their presenters would email me with a response to some of the concerns I had raised as reasons why I really wanted to attend. He will try to answer some of them for me. Wow! The line up of presenters includes names I recognize and who I know are well respected in the community here. Now if only parliament remains intact for another month or two... It isn't often that such good luck favours one and I want to take full advantage of it.

An email from one of my sisters. Did I want to participate in a sleep over at a hotel with a bunch of us in the family all sleeping in one room for night. A promo from a local establishment. One of those "Let's all get our hair and nails done together" things. No, not even maybe. As you often heard in my posts, dear diary,I resent that push to only be and be valued for what you look like. I'm not willing to stoke the economy of that industry. My Dad thought it would be something he'd like to provide as a gift and the thought is appreciated even though I've long past the teen age years when that type of thing might have been of interest. Actually if he'd just drop me off at a book store or one of the special music shops ........... the university even. Otherwise I don't really think so. I like my own bed thank you very much.

My youngest went for another job interview this morning and was hired on the spot. It is about 20 minutes away by bus and he could walk there in a pinch. Eight hour shifts and weekly pay that is quite a bit more than that other offer. I'm glad he turned that other one down. With this offer comes training as well in an industry that is very deeply entrenched in the economy and offers all sorts of possibilities for advancement as well. All he has to do is see if it is the type of work he would like to continue on with. He is very excited to say the least and I am very relieved. That's two lucky breaks in one day. The only downside was I still didn't find any money in my account for the pre-writ preparation work I did prior to the election. I can wait one more week and then it becomes a critical issue for me. Hopefully the concern about another electoral event shortly will make the payment more prompt this time. They received my invoice two months ago after all. We'll see - three times lucky anyone?

Reading right now? The Fellowship of the Ring. Comfort food for the heart really. Tom Bombadil and the old forest were part of what was cut out of the movie so I have always felt it was incomplete for that reason. You see, Tom tells the hobbits about where the Entwives are if only they listen and also how to move beyond the power of the Dark. Guess there wouldn't have been much need for the rest of the movies but maybe there will be another film that draws from the story as it is described in the Silmarillion. That is the creation myth of Tolkien and has more story lines that weave a whole tapestry of stories of life on the current earth. Again it incorporates, if even just subconsciously, much that is contained in many other mythic systems but in ways that are oddly filled with great hope despite the sadness of some of the stories. Not a bad thing then is it - in the end. AS I read it it triggers dreams that are strangely prophetic. I can see a little bit of what has been hidden by the pressure and demands of the last year or so. Hmmmmm. I still can't figure out though, why my Dad suddenly has four high end sports cars - Maserati's, the ones my son didn't recognize the other day - at his disposal. He can only drive one at a time after all. The reason I remember that part is that the silver one goes missing and we are looking for it - driving around throughout the local countryside in the gold one. Hmmmmmmmmm again.
