Summertime
On the bus today, a mom and daughter in her late teens. Very strange way of communicating. Biting off each others' sentences or finishing them for each other - both talking at once. Yet they seemed to understand each other perfectly. Close companions.

A young man sitting next to one of my neighbours and me. I mentioned we thought Miss Kitty might be pregnant, the saucy wench, when we were comparing notes on our pets. She raises lizards and reptiles, along with two cats. He jumped in and started telling stories of his own pets and then his childhood in Ontario. Then the man across the aisle piped up with his pet tales. By the time we reached our stop the first young man and my neighbour were deep in conversation pacing amiably home together. Funny what can happen on a bus.

Walked with my two lunch companions the past couple of days. It was warm enough to be outside and we headed for the river. Its high enough now, that one can see it eating into the pathways under the bridges. Doesn't happen every year, but the rain has been constant and heavy the last week or so with more to come. The nice thing about that rain right now, is that it is coming down around the supper hour, cooling things off after warm summer afternoons. Just right for sleeping. Assurances from our environmental specialists that, although the rain is also creating unusually high numbers in the mosquito population - the ride on 'em kind, they aren't the ones that carry the west nile virus. We should be gratefull they say. Ummmmm - ok. Involuntary blood donation and welts from the bites all over one's body beats the alternative - I guess.

Lots of tourists starting to appear downtown. Germans today, on a tour together. Apparently one group of about 30 has come to the city regularly at this time, for several years now. Maybe we should adopt them. Rodeos and chuckwagon breakfasts and lunches starting to be in evidence round and about. Just gearing up for our annual party - the Stampede - in a few weeks. Summer in the city.
