home again
I am living in my own home now. I went to stay at my Dad's partner's home to learn how to manage 10 - now 9 - prescriptions without poisoning myself.

A+ has been escorting me to the nearest hospital for physio and OT by train/bus. I have already sent an email to the mayor's office about handicapped accessibility on transit.

"Dear Mayor Nenshi

I had a stroke mid-June, so I am writing about accessibility on transit, upon which I am dependent. I was a volunteer on GoPlan so I appreciate the vast improvement for handi-capped access. First, transit has exceptional human resources-(I have blogged about them - novel in process) they are patient and caring. However, please don't order more train cars like the new ones as they pose a danger to my safety, even able-bodied. Also please slow down mechanical doors; I only navigated them with my boyfriend's/protector's help even though I could manage downtown up escalators. Thank transit for no shuttle buses; they are bad news altogether. Please ask stroller users to be more careful, one almost knocked me over. Thank you for your time and consideration."

My appointments have been halved, because I have progressed so quickly physically. Just a cane for walking outdoors. My balance is still poor and I can now see with both eyes, but my depth perception is rather compromised. I still have to go meet with a dietician about eating properly. I have been reading "The Hobbit" out loud to my oldest grand-daughter (she is very patient) to improve my speech - the cats are all spread out in postures of repose while this goes on.

An application for short-term disability support has been submitted by my Dad's new partner on my behalf to our provincial government. Might have to wait to "eat properly".

Neighbour two doors away has been complaining to by-law and police about the American-made vehicle they drive, so they can't drive it to pick up supplies or take me to appointments, as they are concerned residency requirements might be compromised.

I feel happier and safer now that I am at home, grandbabies and cats notwithstanding. My daughter-in-law is an ex-American GI - they moved in with me at the end of December - so she is very organized and no-nonsense, but very protective.
