Revolution
A+ and I were going to go out walking today, but there is a heavy snowfall warning in effect for our city right now. Means I have time to talk with you instead, dear diary.Don't mind the snow at all, given it is time for winter wonderlands, but the wind bringing in those magical scenes is another matter. "You know Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore".

That was sort of a theme this week too. Strange events acting like signposts that big changes were or are happening. First there is all that political hot air in the nation's capital. You can run, but you can't hide Mr. PM. Parliament can't (legally) be suspended forever. That would equal a dictatorship or a ruling junta, you see. Parliament is set to reconvene on January 26 - close to Robert Burns birthday, forbye "Oh would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us." Maybe there is an omen there given Mr Burn's political insights during his lifetime. Some of the US commentaries have been quite enlightening and entertaining on the subject. The drama will pick up again with the tabling of the federal budget just in time for my birthday. Yee haw.

On the train the other morning a male of East Indian descent standing up in the aisle and talking - likely into his blackberry. It was a day or so after the bombings in Mumbai. This gentleman seemed to be almost speaking as though he was being interviewed by the press or as though he was lecturing to a political science class. Most of his discussion was in a mix of Urdu/Punjabi, but the sprinkling of English terms allowed me to flesh out some of the discussion. He seemed to be discussing possible links to people of that Asian heritage living here and the investigation of the local police and the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police). There was some comment about rights and responsibilities of "persons of interest" family members or friends. The speaker seemed to be encouraging co-operation or, at least understanding of the process. Another male of the same heritage boarded the train, heard the first male's discourse and started asking questions just as the train pulled away for the journey downtown. Although not likely related, my attention was drawn to the fact that there were police officers walking along the train platform with their cruisers parked at the bus loops both at my station and the one located two stops down. It was obvious they were actively trying to catch someone but difficult beyond that to guess who. There has also been a lot of gun play - very unusual for this city - that seems to be connected with gangs in the past month resulting in some murders. I'm hoping the police catch their men/women soon where that is concerned.

Big drama at work too. One senior staff was fired at the end of summer. Another let go unexpectedly a few days ago. The word "housecleaning" being used by those more plugged in to the administrative side of things in conjunction with this last episode. Disquiet and distress among the counters. The economic news locally and globally making everyone uneasy as word of mouth reports from friends and family about significant (100's)layoffs/down-sizing in the oil patch in several of the anchor companies whose head offices are located in this city. Friday and yesterday my assignment was to do whatever it took to demonstrate to the client that our work results were accurate and transparent for all parties involved. Meant working as a team with their staff to recheck and amend any mistakes. There was also a pow-wow called by our manager of those of us doing the admin work around noon to discuss the state of our company and probable go-forward activities based on the senior management meeting that had been held right after that last bolt-from-the-blue firing. I was surprised at how much information was offered.

Big changes coming - maybe. With all of the above issues though the biggest concern I have is that decisions made take into account the long-term solutions that will help protect the citizens/workers that are the backbone of our society, as well as our economy. Short-term, short-sighted, knee-jerk reactions are incredibly dangerous given the instability of some of the current situations. Oh wait - that astrological Saturn-Uranus thang going on again this week. The one that peaked once already on the day of the US presidential election comes round a second time this week. Uh huh. "You say you want a revolution, weeell you know, we all want to change the world..." The last time these astrological aspects were in operation, that song was a chart topper and "the times they are a changing". Good thing I like change eh?
