03:51 - 02.02.08 Sat and drank coffee while listening to my Dad's 78s on the record player. Nat King Cole cycling up along with what sounded like Sinatra. Chatting about music then seguing into family history. I had been having dreams about my favorite house - the pink house - and wanted to ask the address and the layout because I could find my bedroom in the dream but I couldn't remember how I got there from the living room. Sparked discussion about ancestors from the UK and the Scandinavian countries. I had sent my Dad some links to websites so that he could do his own research but his web service is dial up and unstable. I could find the links from earlier transmissions but ther was no connectivity to the internet at all. My Dad said he was billed every month for the service so that wasn't the problem either. As I was trying to figure out what the problem was, my Dad and sister headed off for his bedroom where he stores all the photo albums. Pulled them out of the closet and we started going through them as my sister replaced some photos she had borrowed on her last visit from the sounds of their discussion. There used to be boxes and boxes of photos as well as the albums and my Mom had worked hard to catalogue everything over the years. A lot of the earlier material is missing. My Dad just noted that he didn't know who had it, but that no one ever seemed to return what they took. I really wanted to go through the photos of him during the time he and his dad were working on the alaska highway and some of the other projects they were involved in so I could record his stories for my guys as well as my nieces and nephews. They wanted to know what I had discovered while researching my grandparents families so I explained that too using an atlas that my Dad had at the ready. Show and tell. Headed off to the pancake place for lunch continuing on with the discussion. Some discussion about the minefield one enters when discussing religion arising when my sister was recounting an experience one of her sons encountered when attending a Christmas service. My sister dropped me back home about four hours after we had left so it was a pleasant day all around. she handed me the clothes she had promised as I was heading for the door so the cats had intriguing new scents to suss out - the d-o-g smell making them just a little crazy. My oldest called later to let me know that he had had another interview in the morning and was expecting the employer to call him to let him know if he was hired or not. I explained that he might have to wait a few days for a response since reference checks take time. Called my sister to let her hubby know to expect that call. Then the discussion of family history continued on for a couple more hours as I repeated the stories from the afternoon once more. Mercury retrograde astrologically is great for going back in time - reviewing one's history. Exercised, with the cats playing their own games on the stairs nearly tripping me up a few times, but at least I was alert,eh? Time for bed now. Tomorrow should be warm enough so that I can risk going out and shovelling all that nice snow that fell this week. Good night dear diary. |
