being with you
Around 3 in the am last night I was roused out of bed by some unusual activity and noise as well. At first it sounded as though there were two helicopters making several low passes over my community. My sleep fogged brain guessed that maybe it was the air ambulance with a police escort going to the hospital a couple of miles away. Then the brain woke a bit and asked itself - well why all the passes over the community then and why does the air ambulance need an escort? It is ground ambulances that require that sort of protection. Hmmm. Then the news stories of about a month ago surfaced for consideration. There was a bit of a scandal because the police helicopters couldn't remain airborne as long as needed because there was a critical shortage of pilots to fly them. That labour shortage thing again since oil companies can pay their pilots considerably more than not for profit outfits. Then I realized that there was at least one fixed wing small craft making some of those very low passes - now going on for longer than I was comfortable with at any rate. I've lived near the airport for nearly 30 years. Unusual flight activity makes me very nervous. There was a fleeting thought about military copters but those have much more powerful engines. It is as though they are pounding their way through the atmosphere. That said .... but no. The fixed wing aircraft sounded about the size of a crop duster. Not mosquito season and they aren't supposed to spray over residential areas anyway. The mind was now fully awake although the body desperately wanted to curl up in it's nice warm bed and forget about it. After all nothing we could do since we had no inkling of what was really going on. But wait said the brain I want to know, I want to figure the puzzle out. Such an eager beaver that brain. The compromise was that I laid down but the brain refused to turn off completely until all the commotion ended. What was frustrating was the sound was close enough to fill the air with sound but it was too dark to catch sight of what and where was making the noise. Grumble. Maybe it was another "weather" event.

I spent a good part of the day working on my resume. Deal with reality not wishes. I have already had one call from someone checking to see if I'm interested in a position and I also received an email from a headhunting outfit in Eastern Canada. Their description of the job didn't match my skills portfolio but it was a bit of a morale booster for that communication to arrive when it did. One foot in front of the other and I'll finally make it .... somewhere. The news about a "superbug" drug resistant form of staph aureus showing up in places like daycares made me glad I had chosen to put job hunting aside to look after my grand-daughter. It's too bad I can't afford to just be a grandmother isn't it. That form af bacteria is commonly found on the skin of normal healthy people and usually doesn't cause illness unless one's immune system is seriously compromised. This particular mutation is affecting strong healthy people like athletes and chldren too. There is still a quarantine law in place in Canada but I think it would be so foreign to the way society operates now to almost be unenforceable in certain segments of society - the workplace for instance. Can you actually see businesses shutting their doors for several weeks in order to contain an outbreak. Good corporate citizens would find a way to continue vital activities through telecommuting and complying with all other requirements of the legislation. There aren't a lot of those types of businesses around.

Left home around 3 in the pm to get groceries. The reason I like going to the local store rather than having my order delivered is two fold. First I like to see and choose what I am paying for myself. Secondly I usually get treated so well by the staff at the grocery store near me that it is also a real morale booster too. Today the manager packed my groceries and joked with me and the cashiers. I visited with the customer behind me in line and talked with one of the people who worked for me last election who also works at the store. Just catching up, trading stories, and socializing while waiting for my order to be processed. The manager asked one of the other staff to call for a cab for me and she made a point of making certain she called the company I prefer dealing with. How could one ask for more than that. Got home in time to put everything away just before my youngest arrived home from work. The cats were pleased because they got treats, clean litter and their humans back all at the same time. My youngest had picked up a new hair brush for the cats and they were totally blissed out after their coiffures. Now maybe tonight I can get some sleep without worrying about what is buzzing around the stratosphere tonight. Good night dear diary.
