23:42 - 02.01.07 I spent a good part of the day working on my resume. Deal with reality not wishes. I have already had one call from someone checking to see if I'm interested in a position and I also received an email from a headhunting outfit in Eastern Canada. Their description of the job didn't match my skills portfolio but it was a bit of a morale booster for that communication to arrive when it did. One foot in front of the other and I'll finally make it .... somewhere. The news about a "superbug" drug resistant form of staph aureus showing up in places like daycares made me glad I had chosen to put job hunting aside to look after my grand-daughter. It's too bad I can't afford to just be a grandmother isn't it. That form af bacteria is commonly found on the skin of normal healthy people and usually doesn't cause illness unless one's immune system is seriously compromised. This particular mutation is affecting strong healthy people like athletes and chldren too. There is still a quarantine law in place in Canada but I think it would be so foreign to the way society operates now to almost be unenforceable in certain segments of society - the workplace for instance. Can you actually see businesses shutting their doors for several weeks in order to contain an outbreak. Good corporate citizens would find a way to continue vital activities through telecommuting and complying with all other requirements of the legislation. There aren't a lot of those types of businesses around. Left home around 3 in the pm to get groceries. The reason I like going to the local store rather than having my order delivered is two fold. First I like to see and choose what I am paying for myself. Secondly I usually get treated so well by the staff at the grocery store near me that it is also a real morale booster too. Today the manager packed my groceries and joked with me and the cashiers. I visited with the customer behind me in line and talked with one of the people who worked for me last election who also works at the store. Just catching up, trading stories, and socializing while waiting for my order to be processed. The manager asked one of the other staff to call for a cab for me and she made a point of making certain she called the company I prefer dealing with. How could one ask for more than that. Got home in time to put everything away just before my youngest arrived home from work. The cats were pleased because they got treats, clean litter and their humans back all at the same time. My youngest had picked up a new hair brush for the cats and they were totally blissed out after their coiffures. Now maybe tonight I can get some sleep without worrying about what is buzzing around the stratosphere tonight. Good night dear diary. |
