Not work
Well, I don't know whether this is a very late night post or a very early morning one, but it was simply too hot to be in the computer room working before now. Somewhere in the 90's F/+30's C by mid Friday. The official temperature was probably in the low 90's, but that doesn't account for homes with no air conditioning. It is about 55 F/16 C right now, so it is just becoming comfortable. Reason I'm up? Well firstly I wanted to be certain the cats hadn't run low on water - not with those fur coats of theirs - and I wanted to get the dishes done. I know, sounds stupid but it was too hot to attempt earlier and there is nothing that depresses me more than a sink full of dirty dishes when I get up. Needed to change out those litter boxes too - this heat and things really start to smell, don't they.

As I was going about preparation I could hear a ruckus next door - west side. Nothing particularly new about that on the west side of the house. This time it was a teenage girl crying at the top of her lungs standing outside the house. Woke up my youngest, grabbed the phone and went outside to check on her, since it appeard safe to do so - no other partiers around. She appeared to be impaired. The story she told didn't add up, so I was cautious about dealing with her. She said she was 15 years old. She said she had been out partying with the old owner of the house. She said the old owner of the house was living inside next door again. She said they were "best friends" and had been "forever". She said she had just moved to Calgary from a "little hick town" around Edmonton - our sister city to the north. Well first of all the neighbour in question is my age, so the idea of the two of them being "girlfriends" is highly unlikely. It is possible the old neighbour had moved back in to the house in question, because the "new neighbours" are related and this scenario has played out the same for the past three or four years. First the house is "sold" and then it isn't. It is also very possible that the two were partying together. That is what the old neighbour does - usually as the host and usually making certain the party supplies flow freely, if you get my drift. But this young woman's assertion was that she had been on a sleepover to the west side neighbours and they hadn't let her back in with the old neighbour after they returned from the party. At 4 in the am. All the lights were on in the neighbours home and it was obvious they were awake. They still haven't emerged since that incident a couple of days ago and they do try to behave as though no one is in the house. Very curious.

The young girl asserted that her father had agreed to come and pick her up at about 8 in the am and that he would be really violent if disturbed prior to that time. I offered to call the police because she said she had been hurt at the party, even there was no phyical evidence of that. No way. I offered to get her to the women's shelter for her own safety. No. I offered to pay for the cab ride home if her father didn't want to come pick her up. No. By the end of two hours it appeared what she wanted was to get inside my home. By that time the answer was no. Too many inconsistencies by far. The discussion took place through a couple of hours and it appeared that she would go back and talk to the people in the house next door then return to knock on my door with the next part of the story decided upon. She finally used my phone to call her father to ask him to come pick her up immediately. There appeared to be no negative response and there certainly wasn't any yelling or abuse from the other end. She had warned me before she called that she was going to lie to her father and proceeded to tell him that the two neighbours next door had started fighting verbally and then physically and that she was afraid to stay there. She told the person on the other end that the police had been called. Checked that telephone number out on my redial function after whe left then went to the reverse directory. That number? For "Good Time Party Escorts". Thought so. You see I used to volunteer with a family support agency - one that focussed on troubled teens. Meant I spent some time working with street kids. The neighbours next door have appeared to be a place where those children are found on a regular basis. Sometimes certain behaviours are only seen among those young people. Uh huh. I think I'll think about that tomorrow said Ms Scarlett. In the interim while waiting for her to come back to talk with me, my youngest and I just proceeded with housework. Just dished to do now so I think I'll attend to that then crawl back in to bed for a while. Just another day in paradise.
