Dancing with the mirror
I had a lot of fun at the Hip Hop dance class after work. Got reacquainted with some muscles that have been noticeably silent for a while. The instructor was really good and good natured too - just letting us find our own feet for the first bit and teaching some basic choreography and standard moves - popping and waves for examples. As usual I don't have any trouble with the steps - some tap, some jazz, some belly dance, even some ballet all fused into the one style - but the upper body co-ordination, going a different direction from the lower body, is a bit of a challenge. Having mirrors all around the space does help and just keying on the instructors body helped - until he started moving at warp speed. Right now there is just one young fellow and me in attendance - brand new studio as of March - so we got a lot of extra attention. I'm hoping I can persuade my youngest to meet me at the market so he can get the dance component he need for his phys ed program. "Rich Girl" - a version of the song from Fiddler on the Roof - was playing as we walked in. There seem to be a lot of jazzed up versions of songs from the '60's in the mix right now - make sense since, as I've noted before, there are a lot of similarities between the dancing then and now. One of the DJs on Vibe 98.5 was promoting the search our local professional football team was having this weekend for cheerleaders and noted even grannies who enjoyed dance would be welcome. I think that's pushing the envelope way too far - even for an Aquarius. When I see Oprah trying out I might change my mind, but otherwise forget about it. I didn't even try out when I was in my teens - too busy with more important interests.

This week Mercury is on the horizon at Sundown. It appears to conjunct the moon on Friday so it should be a pretty sight. One can keep that in mind when Mercury goes retrograde at the end of next week and one's computer starts crashing without due cause.

Work was fascinating today. I've been given some research responsibilites in addition to the coding work that needs to be done. As before all the resources were provided within a couple of hours of being assigned the tasks. The research is into some of the really big scandal around corporate behaviour in the industry in Canada. Seems a bit odd to be givn free reign there but maybe the company was compromised or taken to the cleaners along with so many other companies here and they just want to set things back so they are right. The email describing the yoga class came around today too. Only 50 participants can be accommodated and the company has nearly 1000 employees, so there is going to be a draw for spots in the classes if there is an over-enrollment. Given that I'm contract, I feel privileged even to be offered the opportunity. Another email inviting all staff, again including contract and consultants, to the company "Play Day" mid June with requests for suggestions for playing. The dance studio I'm going to offers several styles of dance so maybe I'll suggest a day of trying out different styles of dance. Last night as I was leaving a team was going around sterilizing each computer keyboard and workstation for every employee. This in addition to the cleaners who go through the kitchens sterilizing that space. The rationale of the company being that the healthier the work environment is kept the better employees will be able to perform their tasks. I like this company.

Came home tonight and emailed one of the realtors I connected with this afternoon with respect to my election assignment, then set up lunch dates with a couple of friends I made at earlier contracts. Checked in with my supervisor from the old company too - just more loose ends with respect to the one client who wanted me back for a couple of weeks worth of work. I haven't had the opportunity to talk to my new supervisor about taking one day a week to work on the next phase of their project, because she and the expert retention specialist from Texas have been giving workshops non-stop to all the staff here all week. I loved working at that other company and I enjoyed working with the liaison there as well, but I don't want to make my new supervisor at this contract feel that I'm not putting their best interests first. I'm hoping that I can do the other contract at home after regular work hours - the election work is pretty much completed other than getting that office space commitment so I can find the time. That's what I had offered my old supervisor anyway. We'll see.
