Happy Hallowe'en dear diary. We didn't have as many children at the door a usual. I think the continuous forecasts of cold weather might have had something to do with it. Usually we see well over 100 but this time I think there were only about 60. Since I was giving out juice boxes it isn't any great problem. My guys will be happy to look after the remainder.
Interesting movie on our National news channel tonight. Part I of H2O. It's a story about the assassination of a future Prime Minister, by a cabal who want to hijack Canada's fresh water supply to sell for their own great profit. What is troubling is that in many provinces - including Alberta - the framework of legislation to allow that is already being put in place. Moreover, there is already a fair amount of concern about such behaviour expressed by reliable sources such as the World Bank. Use of aquifers throughout North America to supply industrial uses and the return of that water to the source severely polluted is already of major concern, as is the use of waterways, such as the Colorado river, to get rid of poisonous effluent from things like jet fuel production. Evidence clearly indicates that the levels of childhood cancers has soared among downstream human populations. But then again "break a few eggs to make an omelet" don't you know. As long as it isn't your egg - excuse me, child - I guess there's no problem - right? The newspaper review was quite condescending and diminished the value of the movie, but it could just be that the writer doesn't know much about the real world and likes to keep it that way.
This article in the Arab News was interesting - about the hold fundamentalists are trying to establish in public schools to promulgate their doctrine. Must have studied Hitler's tactics. As a matter of fact I believe the Ayatollah Khomeini was once a refugee in that regime's care. The issue was brought up in one of the most popular television shows there and has generated a great deal of discussion. brainwash. Sunlight disinfects. A lot of parents in the Kingdom, who can afford it, have put their children in private schools to avoid their children being contaminated, but shouldn't the priority be that all children be taught that tolerance of differences of faith or ethnicity is critical to the health of society?
