Change of pace
When I left my chiropractor's office yesterday, I felt quite sick. Just the body adjusting to the treatment I thought. All afternoon it became worse instead of better and I was very glad to reach home last night. Woke up this morning and found I couldn't face the task of getting dressed, so I called in sick. Not the smartest thing to do with only three days left in the contract and a lot of loose ends left to tie up, but it seems that everyone else's needs are always more important than mine. This time I decided that my health had to come first. I feel ok now so I'm guessing it was the onset of the flu going around.

This afternoon I did talk to the recruiter who had called me about a job posting coming open. It sounded quite interesting - and challenging - but the employer also wants someone full time and permanent. I'm going to Ottawa in three weeks for training and I'm not giving that or the work on the next election up. First because I love the work and also because I haven't found an employer who is willing to compensate me at the same rate for the work I do. I'd also love to work overseas on some of the development projects that the Canadian government has going - the best way for me to have a chance at gaining such an assignment would be to stay on with Elections Canada for the moment. In short, I declined the chance for an interview, but sent a note of thanks to the recruiter and an updated resume. Never know.

Talked with my supervisor at the end of the day when he finally had a free moment. We often seem to be communicating at cross purposes without either of us intending to and I don't know how to fix that. He seemed to think I was pressuring him about the weekly report I sent him. Personally I don't care one way or another about that. Once I've submitted them I've done due diligence and the balance of the responsibility lies with my liaison at the contract. However, I did want to be certain he knew about the possible job offer and I wanted to know if this assignment was going to be extended any longer. The answer seems to be no on that count. If income wasn't a consideration, I'd actually be quite content with that. A couple of weeks to rest before going to Ottawa would be helpful. That way I could finish the volunteer project I took on by the end of the month and work on the material I need for the next part of our tasks to prepare for the election. Creative budgetting I guess is the answer.

Miss Kitty slipped out the door this morning - I'm guessing when number four son went to work. She just arrived back home through the bathroom window. It was warm enough today that I could leave it open for her. Her babies were in a fuss about it so I think maybe it was a good thing I was too sick to leave today. They're all crowded around her watching her eat and groom, so I think they missed her. Even the most devoted parents need a break on their own sometimes though.

The woman who is my automation specialist is going to Ottawa for training with me. She has seven children and this will be her first time away on her own. When we spoke on Sunday she was giddy about the adventure. We chuckled at the thought of her hubby trying to cope without her but maybe they'll appreciate her more even with such a short break. She can't wait to have even just a few hours just for herself. I can empathsize since I used to feel that way too, when my guys were small. It doesn't matter how much you love them, every so often there has to be time just for one's self too.

My young men are over at their Dad's right now - it's his birthday today, born on a Friday to boot. You think that would have been my first clue right? Anyway, while I have my free time I need to get some ironing done - if the kittens will share their "bed" (ironing board) with me for a bit. Work tomorrow.
