The Cheshire Cat
There's a lunar eclipse coming up on the 19th. It will be in effect from about 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm mountain time. Eclipses usually occur in pairs - one lunar, one solar - within a couple of weeks of each other and there are generally two or three pairs per year. The total solar eclipse will be on December 4th peaking at about 11:38 pm Mountain time.

In astrology, an eclipse is held to activate a tide of energy with certain characteristics, based on its location in the sky at the time. The lunar eclipse on the 19th is at 27 degrees 33 minutes in the constellation of Taurus. A lunar eclipse in Taurus is said to trigger an evaluation of our values with respect to morals and finances. It is a testing time. The solar eclipse is at 11 degrees 58 minutes in the constellation of Sagittarius. The challenge of this eclipse is to apply those values activated during the lunar eclipse from the perspective of the spirit or the divine. Test results are sent back to you in the form of "what goes around comes around" or "as you sow, so shall you reap". So it is said.

In Western astrology each individual's chart is a circle - 360 degrees - divided into twelve segments just like a clock. Each segment describes a certain part of your life. For example, the fourth House (segment)relates to your home life and your mother while the tenth House relates to your career/standing in society and your father. Every chart includes all signs of the zodiac but their placement around the clock will depend on your time of birth while the location of the planets will be determined by your date of birth. Look in an ephemeris or a table of houses for the year of your birth if you are curious where the planets were in the sky for you. Everyone has 27 degrees Taurus at some point in their chart, so it is believed everyone will be influenced by the eclipse but in different areas of their lives - might be in marriage, or in the home, or in the career. Ditto for the solar eclipse. In my chart the lunar eclipse lands in my fifth house which has to do with creativity, children, and "luck". So maybe I'll be challenged to value my creative side and be required to decide where my creative activities should be invested. When would it be "good" or "bad" to share those skills for profit.

There was an astrologer - Dane Rudhyar - writing during the early part of the 1900's who assigned a visual picture to every one of the 360 degrees in a chart. These images were meant to be snapshots of the energy of that degree. The picture for approaching the 28th degree of Taurus is "A woman past her change of life experiences a new love." Maybe for me that means a new creative skill will unfold - human growth being, at times, like a flower moving from the bud stage to a full blossom. Maybe this signals the next petal to unfold. The picture for the solar eclipse is "A flag turns into an eagle; the eagle turns into a chanticleer saluting the dawn." I think I'll have to muse on that one for a while.

Whether the influence is independent of me or whether it is a form of self fulfilling prophecy doesn't really matter. Sometimes using a chart as a mandala - as I have for decades - as a meditation tool to look at and balance the direction of one's life helps one break out of a rut created by only approaching "reality" from a single point of view. It's helped me turn some very bleak experiences into positive forms of self expression and problem solving. Not a bad thing at all.
